Hi- I'm Derek Flores and I'm a Junior at Bowling Green State University. I'm keeping this blog for my Sport and Gender class. I'm a sports management major with a specialization in General Business. I'm from Fremont, Ohio which is only about half hour away from Bowling Green. My favorite teams to follow are pretty much any Cleveland professional sports team and The Ohio State University. My favorite sport is football and I love to go to the Browns games (most of the time). I have season tickets in the dawg pound. My favorite part about going to the games is tailgating for about four to five hours before the game even starts.
I picked current athletes that I would want to see. A woman I would like to see in a major match would be Serena Williams. She has dominated the sport of tennis for ten years and is very powerful. To see her in the finals of a major would be an experience of a lifetime. The male I would like to see right now would be Tim Tebow. His sport is much different than tennis because it takes a whole team to be dominate, but I think watching him work his "magic" would be quite a site.
My first expectation of this class is on myself, I want to earn an A. I have taken two other classes taught by Dr. Spencer and I know that this class should be exciting and full of great conversations. I'm sure the topics we will cover will be interesting and I love when we have very current topics. I don't really have any concerns with this class besides not being able to watch VHS. I'm looking forward to a great semester.
Hi Derek,
ReplyDeleteFirst let me say that I smiled when I read your comment about "not being able to watch VHS." Of course you know that is a concern of mine as well. However, I have stocked up on new DVDs so I trust that will help us get through this transition. Again, I am glad to have you in this class and look forward to your contributions via blog entries and discussion. I can definitely relate to the athletes you mentioned, and encourage you to see Serena if you ever get the chance. Of course you can see her play in the Australian Open now but usually she is not on until somewhere between 3 and 5 a.m. (the hours are killing me!). I have also been fascinated by the attention being given to Tim Tebow and look forward to seeing how he progresses in the years to come.
This is a good introduction, and I look forward to more of your blog entries and comments!
Dr. Spencer
