Madness

This time of year is truly crazy. In the sports world I do not know how anybody could complain on the headlines. Normally the main topic in March is just the basketball tournament but this year there is the Peyton Manning dilemma in which what team he would decide to play of which could be the rest of his career. I do not think that anybody would expect to pick the Denver Broncos though especially with the media saying that it could be Tennessee or San Francisco. His decision is a very large one especially with Tim Tebow finishing up as their quarterback this past year. Now the question is with Peyton In is Tim out? And if so where do you think he is going to go?

The next thing making this March so crazy is the tournament that makes and breaks dreams in college basketball. The first two rounds have been very exciting and have had a few surprises and upsets that nobody saw coming. The Duke Blue Devils were defeated as a number two seed and several other teams “choking” on teams that should have been an easy win. The great stat that sticks out in my mind is how many teams are left in the tournament that are from the great state of Ohio. Ohio State was expected to make it this far but not so much the other teams especially Ohio University.  Xavier has looked good in the tournament even with a bad ending to the season but have had a strong showing in the tournament. Finally the last two teams from Ohio are Ohio State and Cincinnati which they have to play each other in the sweet 16. I think it would be great for this states basketball reputation if one or more teams move on into the next round.  The real question is will a team advance to the next round and if so which team will it be? I really would like to see anybody advance but I think it would be great if Ohio advanced even if it a long shot for who they are playing. With their win it would be great for their university and for the MAC conference.

I hope all of you enjoy this tournament just as much as I do.

  1. Well since Manning signed with the Broncos yesterday and Tebow was traded to the Jets today I guess there’s no point in really talking about that. As for the tourney the first two rounds have been very exciting (minus my bracket being completely wrong). The only thing missing so far is a buzzer beater but there definitely have been a few chances. As for the state of Ohio it is very impressive that it has four schools being represented in the Sweet 16. Unfortunately I believe there will only be one standing once the elite 8 starts. I think Ohio State will beat Cinci, Xavier will lose to Baylor in a close one and North Carolina even without Kendall Marshall will blow out Ohio. None the less it clearly shows the basketball potential in Ohio. The tournament has been very fun to watch and I can’t wait for it to kick up back tomorrow. Hopefully the next couple of rounds are just as exciting as the first two.

  2. I’m glad that Peyton Manning has finally signed with a team because I’m tired of turning on SportsCenter every morning and that is all they talk about, along with the future of Tim Tebow. I honestly do not like Tim Tebow and I think it is funny that he got traded to a team where he will not get the chance to start games. Tebow got all the credit for the Broncos’ wins this past season when really he didn’t deserve it, the whole team did.
I also like the fact that there were four Ohio teams that made it to the Sweet 16. Although Ohio State beat Cincinnati last night to advance to the Elite 8, I would like to see Ohio defeat North Carolina because that would prove that North Carolina is not as good as everyone thinks. Xavier beating Baylor would be a great upset to see too. I hope to see three Ohio teams make it to the Elite 8 this year.

  3. I definitely agree that the Peyton Manning situation was getting annoying. One afternoon I turned on SportsCenter and for about 15 minutes they had an overhead view of Peyton Manning's car driving around Denver, which is just stupid. Unfortunately with Tim Tebow in New York, all ESPN will talk about this fall is Tebow and the Jets. I don't have anything against Tebow, but I do get sick of people talking about him constantly on SportsCenter.

This year has definitely been in interesting one in the NCAA tournament. Being from Michigan it was tough to see the Wolverines lose to Ohio, but at the same time I did enjoy seeing a MAC school go to the Sweet 16. This year was definitely a rough showing for the state of Michigan and U of M and Detroit both lost in the first round, and MSU only made it to the Sweet 16. At this point i think Kentucky will win it all. They have looked dominant, and I just don't see a team right now that can beat them.

  4. Point number one is that Tebow is done with the Broncos. This is a guarentee because the Broncos cannot afford to have both of them on the team. Tebow will be used as a backup and that really does not make sense after the year that he has had last season. Second point is that Kentucky has the best chance of winning the NCAA tournament because of the wide variety of skill that the team provides. Not only are they the number 1 seed but they are so dominant in the league with the big guy little guy combo. Also watch out for Ohio State because they have made there comeback this year by defeating several great teams with tremendous effort and battles. They have managed their way through these battles and have overcome the competition thus far. With the final four approaching I believe that there will be excellent match ups in both of the upcoming games and I am calling the championship game to be Kansas against Kentucky. The double K. K vs. K is likely to happen because of the talent that Kansas has as well. Kansas has been defeating opponents by large amounts of points and when they come up to the road block (Kentucky) best believe that it will be a war of the blue. Id like to call it Kentansas. Weather you are football followers, march madness followers or both what are the opinions on Kentucky vs. Kansas and Tebow being traded?
